Scott Klein is an award-winning journalist and innovator who has spent more than 25 years making public data into useful journalism. As one of the first employees of ProPublica and later its Deputy Managing Editor, he built the data, interactive, and product teams that established news applications as a form of journalism — projects like Dollars for Docs and Nonprofit Explorer. His work has been recognized with a Peabody Award and 18 Online Journalism Awards. He co-founded DocumentCloud, now part of MuckRock, where he is board president, and co-hosts the Data Journalism Podcast with Alberto Cairo and Simon Rogers. His current work asks how data journalism survives contact with AI agents.
